There comes a real sense of freedom in knowing and relying on Christ. Paul tells us in Colossians 3 that there are still some who trust in rituals and regulations, like the people we will read about in Exodus this week. Those old rituals were just pictures – photographs, even – of what was coming in Christ. Know that we have Christ, we can cling to Him and not to the old ways of legalism.
Before we came to Christ, we depended on ourselves for everything – even our standing before God! Now, however, we can call to Him like the people of the psalms, depending on nothing but His grace, and so fully expecting His deliverance. Jesus prayed with no doubt that His Father heard Him and would respond, not because of something that we have done to please Him, but because Christ has done it all. Will you rest in Him this week?
